In short
There is no Thingamajig account. The app does not contain advertising and does not use tracking. Saved Things are held in protected local storage on your device. If iCloud is available, the app can synchronise them through your private iCloud database.
This website uses Google Analytics only after you choose Allow analytics. Website analytics never receives the content of your Thingamajig Library.
The Thingamajig app
Things you save
A Thing may contain a title, code, image, short text, Wi-Fi details, recognised text, notes and presentation settings. This content is saved in the app’s protected local repository. Sensitive values such as passwords are stored using the iOS Keychain.
Thingamajig does not operate an account service or upload your Library to a Thingamajig server.
Photos, camera and clipboard
The app accesses a photo, camera scan or clipboard item only when you choose the corresponding Photo, Scan or Paste action. Recognition runs on your iPhone. The original image is preserved when you choose to save it.
Face ID, Touch ID and device authentication
If you lock a Thing, the app asks iOS to authenticate you before showing it. Thingamajig receives the result of that authentication, not your biometric data.
System features
Titles and safe descriptors may be made available to features you enable, such as widgets, Spotlight, Siri, Shortcuts and Apple Watch. Protected content is excluded. Only a derived QR code and safe name are sent to Apple Watch; protected Things never appear there.
iCloud synchronisation
When your Apple iCloud account is available, Thingamajig uses Apple CloudKit’s private database to keep your Library in step across your devices. Your local Library remains the readable source when you are offline, signed out or iCloud is temporarily unavailable.
Thingamajig places sensitive record fields in CloudKit encrypted fields. Original assets are encrypted on the device before upload, with the asset key kept in the encrypted record envelope. Apple processes iCloud data under the terms and privacy information attached to your Apple account.
This website
Cloudflare delivers the static files for getthingamajig.com and necessarily processes request information such as IP address, requested URL, browser information and security signals to operate, protect and deliver the site. We do not use this information to identify the content of your app Library.
The site stores your analytics choice in your browser under thingamajig-consent-v1. This is necessary to remember the choice you made.
Optional Google Analytics
Google Analytics is disabled by default. Before you make a choice, Google’s analytics script is not requested and no analytics event is sent by this site.
If you choose Allow analytics, the site loads Google Analytics 4 and may send page URL, page title, referral source, browser and device information, approximate location derived from IP address, and interactions such as clicking the App Store link. We configure advertising storage, advertising user data and ad personalisation as denied. We do not send names, email addresses or anything stored in Thingamajig.
Google acts as a service provider for this measurement and may process data in other countries. Read Google’s privacy policy and Google Analytics privacy information.
Your choices and rights
- Use the app without creating a Thingamajig account.
- Deny Photos, camera or biometric access in iOS Settings.
- Delete an individual Thing or clear the Library from the app.
- Export and restore your Library using the app’s local file flow.
- Choose Only necessary for this website, or change your choice at any time.
Depending on where you live, privacy law may give you additional rights. Because Thingamajig does not run an app account or content service, we normally cannot identify or retrieve your local app data for you.
Children
Thingamajig is a general utility and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly ask children to provide personal information through this website.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app, website or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top identifies the current version. Material changes will be presented clearly before they take effect where required.
